Supreme Court gives life sentence to man for killing wife

Relying on the circumstances evidence, the Supreme Court has awarded life sentence to a man from Jharkhand for shooting his wife to death within a year of marriage as he was having an affair with another woman.

”It is true that neither any finger print expert nor any ballistic expert had been examined. Even the blood found on the revolver had not been sent for chemical examination. But, in our opinion, the same by itself would not negate the circumstances which have proved the guilt beyond reasonable doubt,” a Bench comprising Justice Markandey Kajtu said.

The Bench set aside the judgement of the Jharkhand High Court, which had acquitted the man an on the ground that there was no eyewitness to the offence and the circumstances said to be obtaining in the prosecution case could not be said to have connected all links to the chain

Science & Technology minister-led mob ransacks factory, wanted steel unit closed

A mob allegedly led by Science & Technology Minister Chandra Prakash Chowdhary on Thursday night ransacked the office and factory premises of Jharkhand Ispat Factory, Hesla (Ramgarh), damaging the computers and other gadgets besides the cars parked here.

The proprietor Ram Rungta alleged that the minister had earlier threatened him over the phone. He said that the minister hinted that he wanted the factory closed. According to reports, about 25 AJSU workers, allegedly led by Chowdhary forced entry into the factory at gunpoint and damaged the cars parked there. While Chowdhary opened two rounds of fire, his supporters ransacked the office and factory premises.

The minister, however, rubbished the charges and said the incident was stage-managed by Rungta. Talking to mediapersons, Chowdhary alleged that Rungta was involved in illegal coal trade. “AJSU has launched an agitation against people involved in illegal coal tarde. The party workers were collecting the details of Rungta’s role in the illegal coal trade,” Chowdhary said adding, he would soon meet the Chief Minister with the collected data.

Jamtara court accepts the plea of JMM chief Sibu Soren

The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Jamtara, on Friday allowed the plea of JMM chief Sibu Soren, who is undergoing a life term in Tihar Jail for the murder of his secretary, to be lodged in Jamtara jail while fixing January 16 the next date for his appearance in the court in connection with the Chirudih massacre case.

Sibu was brought by a Delhi police team early on Friday for his appearance before the court which issued a production warrant against him last month. Sibu's counsel Sandeep Kumar moved the plea before the judge Arun Kumar, that he be lodged in the Jamtara jail as he has to appear before the court again on January 16. The judge accepted the plea and ordered to keep him in the Jamtara jail in view of the other pending cases against him in different courts of the State including Giridih, Godda and Dumka.

However, he was later sent to Dumka. Sibu is one of the 26 people charges with inciting a mob that killed 11 people at Chirudih under Narayanpur police station area at Jamtara on January 23, 1975. The court also heard the deposition from a witness, taking the total number of witnesses who had deposed before it in the case to 18.
